'Illuminate' IllustrationOne of my final year briefs - I chose to work on illustrations for Bath Spa’s MA Writing for Young People’s publication, creating three illustrations to feature alongside three different stories. The illustrations needed to reflect the plot of the stories as well as give the reader an initial feeling for the story’s mood.I greatly enjoyed this live brief and it was fantastic to be working with the authors and I was thrilled with the feedback I received and proud to see all of the illustrations I submitted used in the anthology.

'Blenheim Palace in Detail' Publication
'Blenheim Palace in Detail' PublicationGrowing up in Oxfordshire, Blenheim Palace was virtually on my doorstep and is the source of many happy childhood memories. In the spring of 2015 I revisited Blenheim for the first time as an adult. Over a number of days I rediscovered this historic palace and its’ landscape and gardens. This book is my own personal interpretation of the patterns, textures and surfaces to be found in and around the buildings. What caught my attention were the small ornamental details that are easily overlooked, I hope that in focusing on these I have been able to capture something of the nature of this great palace. The first of my final year self-initiated briefs was based on Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. Over several visits I collected various details, textures and surfaces from around the palace and grounds. Using my favourite medium of print, I have re-created and collated these details into a hand printed and bound book, celebrating this historic palace through the eyes of a contemporary illustrator.Processes used: Screen print, Etching, Photo etching, Lino printing, Laser cutting & LetterpressMarble Paper kindly supplied by Jemma Lewis Marbling & Design

'Folio of Ghost Stories' Competition
'Folio of Ghost Stories' CompetitionFinal Year House of Illustrations Folio of Ghost Stories Illustration competition. Brief:For your entry you must provide 3 finished illustrations and a binding design. The illustrations must be uploaded to the website as indicated in the details section below. Download and read the folio ghost stories which contains 3 stories, ‘The Treasure of Abbot Thomas’, ‘The Upper Berth’ and ‘A Tale of an Empty House’. You must provide one illustration for each story. Each illustration entered must be accompanied by the story title and an appropriate caption with a maximum of 25 words. The caption should be taken directly from the story. We require full page illustrations, either in colour or black and white, one for each of the selected stories. The illustrations can be in any medium suitable for reproduction; however all entries must be suitable for the dimensions given here. Folio Society books are always bound as hardback without paper dust jackets. The bindings have no blurbs, prices, barcodes or ISBns, and generally the title and author are confined to the spine but can be repeated on the front of the book. Because this book is a compilation, there is no author for the spine. Most Folio books are bound in cloth, blocked with strong graphic imagery, often only using two colours applied one over the other. Simple, graphic designs work very well technically and stand out on the shelf. Printed covers are also effective, but can sometimes be unsuitable for reproduction on cloth.

'Bath Fringe Festival' Poster 2015
'Bath Fringe Festival' Poster 2015I was lucky enough to be chosen and shortlisted by the organisers of the 2015 Fringe Festival to put forward a design for their poster and leaflets. This was a great opportunity to get a feel for what it is like working with a client and presenting my work. It was a great feeling to be able to make an instinctive response to a brief, as the turn around time was fairly short. Although my design was not chosen, it was good to hear useful and encouraging feedback on my work from the organising committee and it was a good chance to present my work and ideas to a larger group of people that are not fellow students.
'Tarot Cards'
'Tarot Cards'The second of my final year self-initiated projects was to develop a semi self-promotional device choosing a theme I felt reflects me as an illustrator. Consistency was key in this project and I wanted to produce a device that worked as a set. I chose to base my self- promotional device on tarot cards and decided to re-design them to portray my own aspirations and goals. I used the 9 cards chosen whilst reading my own tarot as a starting point and developed some criteria that I wanted each card to meet:Each card needed to have three elements; an animal that I believe has the same characteristics as the chosen card. A letter that represents the card’s name and a symbol that I believe is representational of both the animal and the card’s meaning. It was important that the final outcome acted as a business card and had to contain my professional information and contact details. It was also important to make the reasoning behind the design clear by each card containing its name and an explanation of its meaning. For the purposes of this project, birdhouse sampled from Bomo Art wrapping paper.
